Ouzo was our first distilled spirit as a business. Back in 2015 when we were starting we layered five botanicals over a grape-based distillate. Since then our Ouzo recipe evolved and now it's a simple botanical mix of Anise, Coriander, and Fennel seeds using the same grape-based spirit for an authentic and true Ouzo recipe as it was distilled in the early days.
Ouzo by default is hard to mix, but once in a while, you have a recipe that just works. Anise and cherry are a perfect combination of anise and cherry. The lime added a layer of sourness to balance the sweetness from the cherry preserve and simple syrup.
Enjoy it!
Yield: serves 1
Ingredients
- 2 oz Mastrogiannis Ouzo
- 1/2 oz Simple Syrup (our Ouzo contains no sugar, and the drink requires a little sweetness)
- 1 tsp Cherry preserve (we used maraschino cherries, 2-3 cherries with syrup)
- Half a lime quartered
Instructions
- In a cocktail shaker add the quartered lime, simple syrup, and the cherry preserve/cherries. Muddle to release the juices. Add the Ouzo and shake over ice for about ten seconds. Serve in a glass without straining it, add additional ice, and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
